When we look back over the past, it gives us a perspective of our achievements over these years and it certainly brings to light the loss of some opportunities. What is even more valuable than this highly useful retrospective view is the effort we must now make to plan our future. It is certainly true that today Meroil has values which place us in a better position than ever to achieve this.
During the last few years, with the construction and start up of the largest coastline Terminal in the Barcelona Port, brilliantly inaugurated by HM The King, we have achieved a top quality logistics infrastructure, which enables us to operate with greater agility, more convenience, more safety and more autonomy. We are also connected to the Spanish HLC logistics system.
We have also proved ourselves to be innovating in the area of new products and we are the first Spanish operator to launch biofuels on a massive scale, which have been elaborated using new vegetable oils. In this way we have anticipated energy consumption tendencies which today are obligatory, not only in Spain, but also world-wide.
We have launched commercial marketing and loyalty programmes, which make our clients more familiar with our products and services, and therefore, closer to us. We have also associated our trademark with universal and prestigious sports and cultural events, by means of our participation in high level sailing competitions, or participation in the patronage of institutions such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
We have formally declared our intention to add to our already large registered network, our own network of service stations, by building new installations, acquiring already existing stations, or by exploiting this project by any other means within our reach. To this end we have constituted our affiliate “Meroil Red”
In short, we have managed to raise the company’s generation of net resources to a higher level, which equips us to aspire to the development of even more ambitious expansion projects.
Years ago we said that “our challenges and our opportunities were faced with a changing environment”. From the beginning of the present decade, this statement has become especially true. It is enough to take a look at the perception we have today on issues of such importance as the climate change, the mobility of people and merchandise, and the lack, and therefore the high price of fossil fuel resources. Nothing will ever be the same again, but Meroil will play, as it has done up to now, its small but great role, as when we played a key part in the eradication of the Spanish monopoly, or when, almost without realizing it, our name was already included, in capital letters, in the national oil industry and the history of this industry in our country.
